Phocle Lodge Reviews

Phocle Lodge is fabulously located on the edge of a lake, with everpresent waterbirds, including heron, cormorant and egret. We loved it and may well stay there again something we've never done before. We stayed as a couple so didn't use the third bedroom, but as there are no photos of it, it should be noted that it is only accessed from the decking, making is quite private but meaning you might get cold and wet getting into the rest of the house. The third bedroom is a good size, with chaletlike timber cladding inside and kettle and toaster provided. Both the main bedroom and the third one have super king zip and link beds, and ours was very comfortable. The main bedroom has a large dressing room which is wonderful. The shower in the main en suite is larger than it looks in the photo which was great for us as a disabled person needing to be washed. We didn't ask for the ramp for wheelchair access, so can't comment on that, but the external doors are not flat so a miniramp would be needed to get the wheelchair over them, as well as up the external stairs. Once inside it is wheelchair accessible. The house was wellprovided with all needed utensils, etc. There were a couple of small maintenance issues e.g. loose basin, and the lighting in the main bedroom was an awful dull wintertwilight blue colour, whereas everywhere else was bright and warmcoloured. The lightbulbs in the bedroom should be changed and 13 of them weren't working. But they were very minor issues and overall we loved our stay.

Wow wow wow The pictures and description looked stunning BUT in real life its eve better. A wonderful place. Every comfort thought of. Super comfy beds and powerful showers. Great views and so peaceful. Easy to get anywhere. We dont normally return to any lodge but we cant wait to come back. A super super lodge. Cannot recommend highly enough
Stunning property in a wonderful location right on the edge of the lake. The Lodge has everything we needed and more. Very spacious and clean. Comfortable beds and plenty of fans provided which we needed as our stay coincided with a heatwave! Nice to see all the huge fish in the lake. A few pieces of the wooden decking will need replacing soon but they weren't considered a hazard. Watch out for the wasps which were busy collected material from the decking for a nest some distance away but they totally ignored us. Would most definitely recommend this property for a relaxing holiday.
Phocle Lodge is in the most idyllic location overlooking the lake, it has a good network of roads and is in easy reach of various attractions in all directions. The Lodge itself is very well equipped and has many extras including teacoffee, shampooconditioner and even disposable slippers. My only negatives were a few miner maintenance issues, Loose toilet seat and a battery for the kitchen clock which I soon rectified, a few loose boards on the decking area require attention but none of these detracted from our enjoyment as the location could not be better, however I feel that it would be beneficial if a small screen could be placed by the hot tub of the nearest lodge to provide both lodges a little privicy.
Lovely relaxing week away in a great location. Had a great time in this great property. Just one bit of a problem was the TV in master bedroom too low so you end up looking at feet at bottom of bed. But no need to worry about that as the property and views are perfect and will be booking again.

We loved this place didn't want to go home. So peaceful and comfortable. Liz was lovely the new large TV wasn't easy for us to work. But Liz got us a easier one for us. We will be going back thank you .
Judith
We had a relaxing and comfortable week with lovely views from all rooms up the lake. We dont have Smart TV so information on how to use would have helped. A couple of boards on decking trip hazard but once aware where they where was no problem. In general we had a great week and would love to come back. Thank you. Best wishes.

Phocle Lodge is a very nice tranquil place to visit. Beautiful views and the fishing was excellent! The new separate room with shower room was great for my dad to have his own privacy. Lovely wildlife to see and plenty of space around us. Only critique is that we always look for no pets allowed as we suffer pet allergies but we found some dog hairs and also discovered dogs bowls in the cupboard so this was misleading on the sykes website.
Valerie
Lovely setting with comfortable accommodation modation. Shall be back hopefully.
Liz was very helpful when there was a problem with the boiler and it was all fixed within hours
Valerie
Remarkably holiday accommodation, housekeeper left the lodge spotless and the grounds outside where beautiful. As soon as you arrive at the Lodge it feels so relaxing and the view down the lake is like a picture postcard.Situations is very quiet and peaceful but if you wish to go walking, site seeing, visit beautiful villages, or shopping all of these you dont have to travel far .Definitely recommend the Lodge
A lovely high quality, spacious lodge with everything we needed. The site is immaculate and a lovely place to stay. The view from the front veranda across the lake is just great. If you like fishing its a must visit. It is a great location with Ross nearby and easy access to Forest of Dean. There is also a great food pub Moody Cow just down the road. We have already booked to return.
Terrific cottage in an ideal setting, such an enjoyable week.

We had a wonderful stay over Christmas at this beautiful lodge . The view over the lake is simply beautiful with surrounding nature scenery. Its a quiet tranquil location and very peaceful. Cosy homey atmosphere in cottage just what we wanted as a family at Christmas time and in winter . Its spacious and fully equipped with facilities to cook and spending time in this cottage with feeling trapped in . Interior Decor of the cottage is really on high standard and well chosen colours to be a pleasure on the eyes. The owners welcomed us so friendly with a bottle of mulled wine , box of mince pies and xmas card on kitchen counter . It smelled so lovely inside and heating was already upon arrival . Forrest of Dean , Clearwell caves and Symonds yat Rock is astonishing sites to visit and only under or about 30min drive from the lodge. Will definitely want to go back in another season . Thank you , from the ORiordan family
This was one of our most relaxing holidays ever. Very peaceful surroundings and outlook in all directions superb, especially overlooking the lake.
