For Families
Halls Mill is primarily suited to couples rather than families with children. The property has steep stairs across three floors and original mill machinery which may pose safety concerns. The riverside location and working farm setting require supervision. For Couples
Perfect romantic retreat for two. The riverside setting provides complete seclusion with just birdsong and flowing water. Dark skies offer spectacular stargazing opportunities. The woodburning stove creates cosy evenings while the double bedroom features an original mill wheel. Grace and Dick's homemade scones add special touches. Direct access to peaceful walks along the River Arrow makes this ideal for couples wanting genuine escape.
Pet Friendly
Dogs are welcome at Halls Mill. The property has an enclosed garden providing safe outdoor space though some gaps in fencing mean some owners kept dogs on leads. Direct access to riverside walks and surrounding fields offers excellent exercise opportunities. The peaceful rural setting with abundant wildlife makes this perfect for dogs. Hosts Grace and Dick are genuinely welcoming to canine guests.

Halls Mill Reviews

Halls Mill, a marvellously converted watermill, is a superb property, charming and full of character. We wanted to stay somewhere unique and we were certainly not disappointed. It was everything we hoped it would be, truly delightful. It is extremely comfortable, and has seating perfectly positioned so as to allow guests to view the stunning scenery and the local wildlife. The wonderful hosts, Grace and Dick, are the loveliest we have met. They are very friendly, welcoming, generous, and helpful. We were sad to leave, so much so that I don't mind admitting that my emotions got the better of me and I actually shed some tears as we departed. Perfect property. Perfect hosts. Many thanks, Jane and Lisa
Stunning property in a stunning locations with stunning owners bringing us freshly backed scones. The weather was raining all week but it didnt detract from the awesomeness. In fact, it only enhanced it. With walks up to Hergest Ridge, the black mountains and quaint heritage trails around the black and white villages of Weobley, Pembridge and Eardisland. A trip to Brecon, Hay On Wye and Radnor forest with the gorgous Break Its Neck waterfall, there is so much to do. We will back. Thank you for a wonderful stay in this historic property and area xxxx
Indiana
Such a beautiful property. Our stay was perfect. The owners were very helpful and considerate.

Halls Mill is the finest cottage that we have ever stayed in and its owners, Grace and Dick, the most genial, gentle and hospitable people. The property is intriguing architecturally and a really interesting space in which to spend a very comfortable week. It is within easy reach of Hay and Hereford, situated on the banks of the River Arrow. Birdsong and the babble of water were the soundtrack to a very peaceful and restful week and the dark skies at night meant that stargazing was an added bonus. Grace and Dick were attentive whilst not being intrusive, and the gift of home made scones and jam was as unexpected as it was delightful. We cannot recommend this property enough and plan to return in 2026. Thank you so much, Grace and Dick.
We loved staying at Halls Mill beautiful building in a tranquil and stunningly rural, dark sky location. We hope to return in the future, which is not something we often do and we have stayed in many cottages over the years! Dick & Grace were lovely hosts so friendly and welcoming. The cottage was well supplied with basics such as soaps and loo rolls we were invited to help ourselves to wood for the log burner which we made much use of during the colder, rainy October days. We very much enjoyed Graces baked gifts too. The television signal was a little intermittent for some channels we made use of the dvd player to watch the dvds we had brought. Great places to visit near by, such as Hereford and Hay on Wye. Cosy and quaint exactly as wed hoped the cottage would be.
Our second visit this year to Halls Mill. It's just lovely here. Can't fault it, extremely clean, warm and comfortable. The area is beautiful with so many walks. The Mill, garden and immediate surroundings are private, peaceful and quiet. Grace and Dick could not be better hosts. We will be back next year.
Louise
We had a fantastic stay at Halls Mill. It is in a beautiful, remote stop, perfect for a quiet get away. The property is an old, renovated mill, full of character and charm. Lovely walk by the river straight out of the door and lots to do in the local area. Grace and Dick are the perfect hosts, happy to help in any way and Grace makes the most delicious scones. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Wonderful cottage with incorporated old mill workings. The furniture and decor was perfect for the atmosphere. Very peaceful and quiet. Stunning location overlooking the River Arrow and adjacent fields.
Susanna
This is probably the very best place I have ever stayed. I love the quietness and isolation. I very much will be coming back hopefully for a longer stay. The couple who owned the property were lovely. The only disappointment was no welcome pack on arrival especially after a four hour journey, basic tea, coffee, milk and a bottle of wine would have been nice.
Katharine
Such a peaceful, restful place to spend time. We had everything we needed.
Magical place
A perfect holiday. The Mill has been converted beautifully and is clearly very well maintained and looked after. Everything was very clean and there was all that we needed for a comfortable stay. The garden is safe and secure for dogs and the river Arrow and adjoining field was a real bonus. It's peaceful and quiet and abundant with wildlife. Dick and Grace are the perfect hosts, genuinely lovely people who care for their guests. The surrounding countryside is stunning with plentiful walks. Hergest Croft Gardens are a must. We will definitely be returning.
Justin
Delightful property that has been sympathetically restored, so peaceful and quiet at the Mill, zero road noise. A very warm and friendly welcome from the owner, Grace, well definitely be staying there again in the future. 10 out of 10.

Lovely cottage. Fantastic location. Very helpful hosts.
We love the location, very rural, wildlife in abundance. The Mill was warm and cosy and furnished with period furniture. Grace and Dick were wonderful hosts and had plenty of amusing stories to share. We hope to return in the future.
Stephen
This was our second visit to The Mill and it was as good as our first. The cottage is in a quiet and secluded spot, overlooking the river. Very tranquil indeed. Fantastic as a getaway. The accommodation is very cosy and warm. The hosts Grace and Dick are charming and friendly. Whilst there, it snowed, which added to the atmosphere. We loved our visit and hope to go again next year.
We enjoyed every minute staying at the Halls Mill. It's beautifully renovated without loosing it's originality and history. If you want to get away from it all, this is highly recommended. The comfortable bed, the sound of the river Arrow and the privacy of the outdoor space is very relaxing. But if you want to get active there is plenty to do and see in the area. Grace is the most wonderful host and makes you feel very welcome. The week we stayed at the Halls Mill will be fondly remembered! Nigel & Verna
Great place to stay. Owners are friendly and there if you need anything. Beautiful scenery. Sheep are entertaining. Very doggy friendly. The enclosed garden is good but we kept our dog on lead as he could get through the gaps in fence if he wanted and with sheep all around it's best too.
William
We had a wonderful holiday here, the solitude , wildlife and I even saw the elusive Kingfisher. There are some excellent pubs and resturants in the area and places to visit. Grace and Dick are excellent hosts and we look forward to returning next year .
Stephen
The Old Mill is a lovely quiet getaway with plenty of room over the 3 floors. The owner is a very charming, friendly host. We will definitely return.
Lovely restful idyllic place. The mill is beautifully converted with comfortable beds for a good nights sleep. Grace the owner is lovely. Friendly welcoming and very kind. Much entertainment was had watching the sheep, birds and wildlife in this amazing place.
Anthony
In a word, F A B U L O U S !
Fantastic character cottage, very well equipped and cleaned in a really quiet location surrounded by fields of sheep and open countryside. The owner was wonderful, providing useful local information and even a punnet of locally grown raspberries. We'll definitely be back!
Cliff and Susan
Absolutely superlative. Perfect if you really want to be away from it all. The roads are narrow, but largely without traffic, Pubs and Shops are a car drive away. Kington about 8 minutes away has fresh fish, veg and a delicatessen, All brilliant and The Swan Inn and The Boat good Pub Grub. Brilliant walks everywhere and really recommend Westonbury Water Garden. Ludlow and HaonWye well worth a visit. But the Mill itself is comfortable and extremely well appointed, first place we have ever been where we didn't have to buy a cork screw, it even had a toast rack! The hospitality extended by Grace and Dick was exemplary, But all this is crowned by the abundance of wildlife on the bank of the river right outside the door! You must go to belief it.
