Cariad Cottage is a beautifully presented two-bedroom cottage sitting in the heart of Hay-on-Wye, right on the Welsh/English border. It sits beside the River Wye within the Brecon Beacons National Park. Rated 4 stars by Sykes, it's immaculately clean and deceptively spacious according to guests who gave it 5 out of 5.

Hay-on-Wye is a small market town packed with bookshops, antique shops, cafes and restaurants. The River Wye is on your doorstep for walks and fishing. The Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains are within easy reach for walking and cycling. The town hosts the world-famous Hay Festival of Literature every year.

The cottage sleeps up to four across two king-size bedrooms. There's one bathroom with a bath and shower over. The sitting room has an electric fire and TV. The kitchen/diner has an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer and washing machine. Bed linen, towels and fuel are all included.

Hereford Cathedral with its Mappa Mundi is 20 miles away (35 mins). Offa's Dyke Path starts nearby. Eastnor Castle is around 14 miles (25 mins). The Black Mountains are under 10 miles away (20 mins).

The River Wye is within walking distance for paddling and riverside exploration. The surrounding Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains offer easy family walks. Note that the stairs inside the cottage are narrow and steep which is worth considering with very young children.

Two king-size bedrooms mean you can take your pick. The electric fire in the sitting room sets the tone for quiet evenings in. Hay-on-Wye's independent bookshops, riverside walks and good restaurants are all on your doorstep. Hereford Cathedral is 20 miles away for a day out.

The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. We didnt expect any outside space but there was a small passageway which was useful to just let our dog outside. The cottage was ideal for walking to pubs and the shops so we really enjoyed our short break. I did find the shower tricky to get into as the bath was quite high so anyone with mobility issues would struggle. However the photos do show this!

Lovely cottage and great central location in village. Spacious and very comfortable.

This is a beautiful, deceptively spacious, cottage in the heart of Hay on Wye. It has everything you need for a fabulous stay. The cottage was immaculately clean and the beds very comfortable. Two points parking on the, very narrow, road is limited to 6.00pm 8.00am. We would advise dropping everything off and parking at Oxford Road 3 minutes walk away and from 6.00pm its 5 for 24 hours. Also outside space is limited to a shared pathway at the side of the house dont go searching for a garden otherwise you will do as we did and end up in the, very friendly, neighbours. The cottage is highly recommended and we will be rebooking. Also the Black Lion at the bottom of the street has excellent food and, like most places in Hay, is very dog friendly.
