Is The Folly Right For You?

Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
The Folly is not suitable for children as it operates an adults-only policy. The spiral staircase to the bedroom is tight and potentially unsafe for young guests. The compact space and decorative nature of the property make it better suited to adult couples. The peaceful rural setting and lack of child-specific facilities confirm this is designed as an adult retreat.
For Couples
Perfect for romantic breaks with complete privacy at the end of a large garden. The double bedroom offers a super comfy bed for excellent sleep. Enjoy al fresco dining on your private patio surrounded by beautiful grounds. Morning birdsong and peaceful views create a relaxing atmosphere. The welcome basket with homemade bread and local produce adds thoughtful touches. Easy access to Hay-on-Wye and scenic walks makes this ideal for couples.
Pet Friendly
One well-behaved dog is welcome at The Folly. The large garden provides safe space for dogs to roam freely throughout the grounds. The hosts own a friendly dog called Barney who sometimes visits guests with dog biscuits. Multiple walking routes start from the doorstep including Offa's Dyke Path. The rural location with fields and orchards offers excellent dog walking opportunities within easy reach.

The Folly Reviews

Elaine
I loved my stay at The Folly. Its small, like an adult Wendy house, but has everything you could need for a visit. The welcome basket was such a lovely touch, and the homemade bread was still warm when I arrived and absolutely delicious. I also got some great tips on walks and places to visit from Jim and Barney the dog, one of the hosts I met while out on a walk myself. I had a wonderfully relaxing stay, and I imagine the garden and surrounding countryside will be even more beautiful come spring and summer.
We thoroughly enjoyed the stay at the Folly. The surrounding gardens are wonderful and the accommodation is just right. Thanks to the hosts, a great welcome basket was enjoyed. We recommend the Folly.

Returned for a 4th time to The Folly for another relaxing week amid beautiful gardens. Eating eggs laid by chickens less than 50 yards away, and lovely new potatoes grown less than 20 yards away, whilst reading & listening to the birds this is an ideal way to get away from everyday life. Great place for dogs lots of great walks & wonderful views to enjoy locally. Annie, Jim & Barney the dog are great hosts. Look forward to returning again next year!
Annie & Jim were fantastic hosts. The welcome basket was very much appreciated. The spelt bread , eggs & potatoes were just delicious. The bed was comfortable, and the kitchen had all that you need for easy dinners. The sunlounges & use of BBQ were ideal ,set in idyllic gardens , ate locally bought steak & enjoyed a glass of wine or 4
My wife and I had a wonderful stay. The Folly is a fantastic property, nestled away in a little British oasis. It was such a lovely treat to be welcomed with a basket of freshly made bread and milk in the fridge. The Folly was just a short drive from some great walks and places like Hay on Wye so a fantastic base for those looking for adventure. Would 1010 recommend to anyone.

Spent a wonderful two weeks in a peaceful setting, the folly is really cosy and although compact it was fully functional. The grounds are there for you to wander around at your leisure and Barny the little dog will give you a warm welcome. The hosts were the best we have ever met and we have done very many holidays of this kind. Lots of interesting places to visit and most no more than 45 minutes away. We look forward to another visit in the not to distant future.

Had an absolutely lovely stay at the Folly, and can't recommend it enough. I was staying for work but would consider coming back for a holiday. The garden is beautiful and I spent an evening wandering around taking photos of all the things in the garden. As I stayed for work, I cooked most evenings and found that the hob and microwave oven was all I needed to make some tasty meals. The bedroom was lovely and the right size and I probably had one of the best nights sleep in the bed I've had in a long time! The owners were also very accommodating when I needed help and their dog Barney is lovely!
Beverley
We had a lovely stay at The Folly. It was a last minute decision to book. The grounds are beautiful and you kindly have free run of them. The car parking is off road. You need to close the large wooden gate each time as the owners have a dog who will come and visit you. Very sweet. You then walk the length of the garden to the Folly at the end. It is small but every bit of space is utilised. The spiral staircase could be an issue for some but you know this when you book. Plenty of hanging space in bedroom but getting suitcases upstairs is a challenge! The nearest neighbour is not the owner's house but another. Not much is open in the village of Woebley which is 30 mins walk on roads or 45 mins by fields. Internet unfortunately was non existent so Smart TV was pointless. May have been a blip. TV tiny. There are DVDs and a built in player. Good selection of books and games. Lovely welcome basket of home made bread and jam and fresh eggs plus more. We received a warm welcome from Jim and were offered early checkin. Very handy as we were already in the vicinity. The bed has a lightweight duvet. Towels were very stained. There is a bbq in the summer house which is also yours to use and provision of an area with sun loungers. 2 induction cooking rings were efficient and combimicrowave. Couldn't be bothered to read the lengthy instruction booklet for that! Fridge with small freezer compartment. We like to cook when away and as pubs were rarely open glad we had that option. We did have a drink at the Salutation and in Dilwyn village but no food on offer. You can book to eat out locally in the evening if places are open. Plenty of National Trust and gardens in the area. Would we stay again? Possibly. It was a novelty but we really like more space on holiday. Thank you for a lovely break.
Lovely quirky holiday home with all the facilities you need and set in a relaxing environment. . Well equipped and dog friendly providing a large garden space to roam around. The owners provided a handy and delicious welcome pack with delicious homemade bread and jam amongst other essentials. The position was well placed to visit beautiful black and white villages, interesting gardens and landscapes. We would love to return.
Jennifer
We had a wonderful stay there was a warm welcome from the owners with a basket of homemade goodies, the location is lovely I dont think Ive ever heard so many birds singing in the mornings and the property was cosy and clean.
The Folly is a very special place. Small yet comfortable with everything you need, including a beautiful garden to use. Its very peaceful. The owners are exceptionally thoughtful and generous. Lots to do in the area, gardens and National Trust properties, as well as a village close by with pubs and good restaurants. Its great place to stay. The inner spiral staircase is as shown on the photographs. Tight but caused us no bother especially as the shower room is upstairs. We plan to return. Its too beguiling a place not to.
Belinda
We had a lovely stay at The Folly. We enjoyed the peace, quiet and beautiful gardens. We received a warm welcome and some visits from Barney the dog! The welcome basket of goodness was excellent and the bread and jam was delicious. Thanks too, to Barney for the gift of dog biscuits for our Missy xx The Indian takeaway and Sunday lunch at the Sal are recommended. All very lovely! May just need to be aware the stairs could be a challenge for some. However, this is pointed out on the listing. Many thanks
Matthew
We had a really nice 3 day break. Everything was provided and the bed, super comfy. Very peaceful and relaxing. Lovely walks on your doorstep. Thank you for the lovely hamper.
Richard
It rained throughout our stay and we were only able to sit outside for a couple of hours during our 4 day stay. The garden was lovely and we were unable to see and use the benefits of it. The stairs were really difficult. The owners were really friendly as was their dog Barney and helpful and recommended local eating places that were all first rate. Weobley is a lovely village,
The folly was beautiful and really made the week perfect.
Matthew

Beautiful cosy Folly, with magnificent garden space around. The owners were friendly generous GF food and plant milk supplied despite me only saying 24 hours before my stay and very kind towards my needy dogs.

Lovely place to stay. The hosts Annie and Peter were very friendly and helpful.
Kathryn
Heaven pure heaven! !! Our now special place. Cant praise The Folly enough. As for the welcome weve received for Annie and Jim they really are such a wonderful couple.
Lovely place. Spotlessly clean, attractively furnished and fitted and set in a lovely garden. It looks like a tiny Italian villa with its own private terrace. We appreciated the generous welcome pack and warm welcome.Excellent communication with owners who were available but had great respect for guests privacy. The hot weather made us think we were in Italy.
We absolutely loved The Folly! Everything was to hand especially in such a quirky place. The gardens were an added bonus which we really enjoyed. Jim and Annie were on hand if we needed anything and we especially loved the welcome basket. We will definitely be back. If you are looking for peaceful getaway break then try The Folly its so nice.
Michael
Staying at The Folly, was a delight. Very quirky, but very high quality. The bed was very comfortable. The garden was amazing, and it was great to be able to let our cocker, Dylan ,wander around it safely at his leisure, as well as for ourselves. Annie and Jim were great hosts, and the welcome basket was very much appreciated. The bread , jam and beer went down very well still enjoying the extra loaf Annie made now and Dylan enjoyed his dog biscuits from Barney. Would not hesitate to recommend this as a great peaceful getaway for a couple and a four legged friend!. Mike and Jo.
Truly a hidden gem! Such a gorgeous location and the property was immaculate and beautifully decorated throughout. The owners, Jim and Annie were just fantastic, so obliging and very generous in allowing us to wander around their gorgeous garden. The welcome basket was a real treat full of all sorts of lovely goodies, especially the home made bread and jam. The sunsets are amazing from the garden. We walked to Weobley, a beautiful village not too far. Highly recommend Jules Restaurant and also The Saltuation pub, both allow dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Folly and will definitely book again as it was such a special place.
We so enjoyed our stay at The Folly
We enjoyed our time at the Folly and would love to come back again. It shows that good things come in little packages, as, although everything was very compact, it was very comfortable and all the space was used brilliantly. As for the welcome basket, all those lovely local and hand made tasties!! Delicious! Thank you so much, it was a lovely place to stay.
What a lovely place, had such a relaxing time here at the Folly. The welcome pack was so generous but mostly the warm welcome of Annie, Jim and Barney their little dog, its been brilliant. We will be back without a doubt. Love it!!
Beautifully cosy. Had everything we needed for a weekend peaceful getaway. Even though we had three storms starting with Eunice.. we loved our long weekend at the Folly. Our hosts were super helpful and welcoming. Fabulous welcome hamper on arrival. The folly was plenty warm enough though the grim weather. Bed super comfy and lovely shower with good water pressure to warm up after local dog walks in the rain and wind... We would highly recommend this unique property and look forward to another visit when the weather is better we definitely chose the worse weekend this year for a weekend break....
We had such a lovely peaceful week in the folly surrounded by beautiful countryside and views. Everything is modern and clean and the folly has been designed with much attention to detail. Jim and Annie are very welcoming hosts and kindly provided a wonderful welcome basket for the weary traveller complete with their home made bread. I strongly recommend lighting a fire in the pagoda outside ans drinking beer! Jim and Annie were perfect hosts, there if we needed anything but totally unintrusive. They also have Barney the dog!! We are missing the folly and would return for a break.
Beautiful location, unique property and welcoming hosts.
Ronald
Jim and Annie were wonderful hosts, the welcome basket of home baked bread and home made jam with other local produce was exceptionally good. The garden setting was perfect and we slept well in our cosy home for the week.
Spencer
Just returned from a lovely, peaceful few days at the Folly. Annie & Jim were very welcoming hosts, providing a delightful hamper with homemade bread and jam, local beer & other treats. The Folly is set in beautiful gardens, perfect for my border collie Ziggy. Lots of lovely local walks. Thanks to Annie, Jim & Barney the dog.
Sweet and cosy accommodation beautiful gardens generous and considerate hosts would highly recommend.
Lauren
We had a wonderful stay at The Folly, the hosts were extremely welcoming and very helpful. They recommended a lovely restaurant for dinner. The Folly was comfy and cosy, I would not hesitate to recommend!
Tonyal
Comfy bed and couch. Beautiful outdoor area. Very friendly hosts including Barney the dog. Kitchen well equipped. Excellent water pressure in the shower. Wonderful welcome basket. Lovely countryside . Easy to walk to village where pubshop. Would advise anyone with any difficulty with stairs that the spiral staircase is a challenge.
If you are looking for the perfect place to stay look no further. The Folly can not be faulted. The property itself. Its beautiful grounds. Jim and Annie, the hosts and not forgetting Barney the dog. This place is quirky and well equipped and spotlessly clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the welcome basket which contained local eggs and homemade bread and jam. We would certainly recommend here and would have no hesitation in booking The Folly again
This was an amazing stay. The folly has everything you need and is lovely and cosy. The owners are very friendly as is their little dog and theyve really considered personal touches, such as Portmeirion dishes it was the inspiration for the building!. Would definitely recommend staying here and well be returning the area and local village and towns are lovely too.
Tricia
What can I say? ! The Folly exceeds the expectation that the advertising picture already gives! It is quite exquisite. Everything you need, perfect in miniature, and in the most tranquil and relaxing surroundings. Annie and Jim's not forgetting Barney of course! welcome basket is full of delicious treats and basics which makes such a difference to settling in quickly. A wonderful base from which to explore beautiful Herefordshire and the Welsh Borders.
Everything was spot on! Annie and Jim are lovely hosts, we feel that we arrived as guests and left as friends. Barney the dog made our Harley welcome in his garden too. We will definitely go again. Thank you!
