Old Pump Cottage Reviews

Angela
Absolutely loved this cottage! Great location 1015 minute riverside walk into town and very well furnished. Spotlessly clean. Welcome pack was lovely, very generous and the fresh flowers were a nice touch. Bedroom is quite snug bed not huge and only one bedside cabinet which I get as would block wardrobe, and the blind in the bathroom got in the way of the basin. But very minor points as everything else was so good, so a definite 55 overall. Parking was not an issue at all. Garden was perfect for our dog, very secure, he spent a lot of time out there. Thank you Sarah and Chris for making our first trip to RossonWye so memorable
It's a lovely cottage in a quiet location within easy walking distance of Ross. The kitchen and bathroom are particularly worthy of mention as is the powerful central heating. The lounge is large with large patio doors onto a back garden which isn't overlooked by nearby properties. The parking at the end of the lane, 10 meters away, was no problem with the other two users cooperating in using the space available easily and sensibly. My wife and I don't tend to visit places for a second time but if we were to visit Ross again would have no hesitation staying here again
What a wonderful cottage, we had a lovely relaxing stay for our 50th Wedding Anniversary and my birthday. The cottage is so well equipped, clean and comfortable. Thanks to Sarah who was only a text away, was so obliging and let us stay an extra day. Even our little four legged Buddy enjoyed his stay too. Just a short walk to the local pub, the White Lion, food was great and friendly service. Weather was wet for us each day being February unfortunately, but I can imagine come spring and in the summer this little cottage would be a little gem for a couple and their furry friends.

Cosy, quirky and romantic. Quiet and private. Comfortable and relaxing.
Loved this stay in Old Pump Cottage. It worked well as we love to walk and the short walk into RossonWye was perfect for us. Parking at the place was a bonus too. All communications with the host Sarah were seamless and she was very accommodating. Would absolutely recommend this place to anybody looking to stay in the area, we had a three month old with us as well and everything was great!
Old Pump cottage is a delightful cottage, approximately 15 minute stroll into beautiful Ross on Wye. Parking isnt great but its possible to pay the nearby hotel to park. Being winter, the gardens were scruffy and the metal fence and gate broken latch were rusty and ready for painting. The A 40 is very close and the traffic noise can be heard from garden but not indoors. The kitchen is very well appointed and maintained and was spotlessly clean, as was the downstairs. There is a great cupboard next to front door for coats and dog leads etc. The bedroom is small but there is plenty of storage. The bathroom is large and there are bath impressive. The bathroom windows are clear glass so a blind is a must, however the wooden Venetian blind , when closed covered the taps and half the wash basin! It was impossible to wash or even use the loo without closing the blind! On the first evening the flame effect stopped working on electric log burner effect fire but we werent confident or wanting to remove the water tank to refill and felt this should have been prefilled for guests. We didnt use the fire all week. The sofa has seen better days, its clearly been swapped as it wasnt the smart grey sofa in promotional pic. It has no support and my back suffered, husband and I swapped places but sadly it affected his back too. It wasnt only furniture swapped from promotional photos, the pretty white bed is now an uglier black metal framed bed, the smart chest of drawers is now an old dark wooden chest and the garden chairs have been swapped for fold ups. Dont expect the cosy rugs downstairs.. there arent any. The Tv isnt large despite description we struggled to see it , impossible to read words on screen from sofa. Perhaps the most upsetting and unpleasant find, was as we stripped the bed as requested on departure.. seeing the stained mattress as there was no mattress protection. We did enjoy our break in Ross on Wye, we went out early and returned in the evening .but description of Old Pump House is misleading and misrepresented in promotional photos.
Beautiful cottage, very clean. Bed extremely comfortable, kitchen well equipped. Parking on the lane. Lovely pub across the road which does lovely food. Location great for lots of places.
What can I say this is the 2nd time we have stayed at old pump cottage and it was just as perfect as the first . The cottage has everything you need well equipped and so comfortable . Communication between myself and Sarah was perfect . There are alot of places to visit, Symonds yat is a must , Abergavenny was a nice day out aswell , also visited mallards pike , puzzle wood . We will definitely visit tom old pump cottage again . Thanks for a great stay again
Old Pump Cottage is a lovely cosy base from which to explore the beautiful Wye Valley. It is perfectly situated to enable you to enjoy a delightful riverside stroll into Ross on Wye and has a dog friendly pub virtually across the road. We were made to feel very welcome and appreciated the goodies left for our arrival. We were very pleased to be able to use the parking at the nearby hotel for a charge of 20 for the week as it would have been a bit of a squeeze to park by the cottages garage we drive an Audi Q5. The garden at the property is very convenient for dogs as well as people as it does seem to be secure. We will definitely plan to return and will happily recommend the cottage to others.
Malcolm
A pleasant stay in a well presented cottage. Although weather was not great managed to get around easily, Hereford, Abergavenny, Symonds Yat and Mallards Pike for example. Plus plenty of places on riverside walk to exercise our dog. PubWhite Lion nearby a bonus! Back garden a little small but adequate for us. Welcome pack much appreciated.
Michelle
The Old Pump Cottage is charming and great for a comfortable stay in a very quiet lane close to the river. It was very clean and well maintained with all modern conveniences. All light switches were marked with the area they related too which we had not seen anywhere before but was really helpful. I only cooked a couple of times but the kitchen was fully equipped with quality pans, cutlery and crockery. The bed and sofas were comfortable and the bedding and towels were of a good quality. A great experience all round if only the owner could control the weather.
Denise
We have been to Old Pump cottage many times and it never disappoints. It's always clean and welcoming. There is so much to do both on the doorstep and further afield. We had a really lovely break.
Damian
We had a lovely week at the cottage. The garden was lovely. Just wish the chairs had been covered as they were covered in cobwebs and pigeon poop. This is the recliner chairs. Great base for exploring the surrounding area. The bath was massive. A smaller bath may have made the bathroom look bigger.
Steven
This is a little gem of a place, very quite but close enough for any needs. Old Pump Cottage is very well kept and clean and has everything you should need for a delightful stay. It is in easy walking distance for the lovely RossonWye. The White Lion is 2mins away, ideal for a relaxing drinkmeal. A very nice welcome basket on arrival. Would certainly recommend.
We spent a lovely week at Pump Cottage. The property is quirky and quaint and supplied with everything you need for a week away. The owner was in touch during our break to answer any questionsqueries. The bottle of wine and milk was a nice touch thank you. The only downside there might be for some would be the stairs, they're narrow and quite steep and if you're above 5'8 expect to duck or grouse! There is a great pub a couple of minutes away The White Lion situated in a beautiful spot by the river Wye. Food was good too. The walk into Ross takes approximately 15 minutes and apart from the bridge, is located in parkland adjacent to the river. Ross is a sweet little town and contains lots of independent shops, restaurants etc. The Royal Green King pub has a beautiful view of the town and countryside. A bit of a hike to get there but you will have earned your beer!
Cottage is well equipped and well located to access Ross on Wye and surrounding area. Generous welcome pack .Lovely pub a few minutes walk away with good food and right by the river,so great to sit out with a drink on a summer evening. The area is beautiful with many places to visit.
Murray
The cottage is quaint, cute, romantic and full of character. It is comfortable, relaxing and we feel instantly at home. We have stayed here five times now. The positioning of the cottage is perfect. A short walk to the river Wye. Several hotels within walking distance for meals. We really like the White Lion for sitting right beside the river, having a meal or a drink. There is also the Anchor and Hope and at the top of the hill there is the Royal for a fantastic view of Ross as you eat, drink and watch the sun go down. Bus stop is almost right outside the cottage for visiting Hereford and Gloucester etc.
Belinda
The cottage is so lovely and we had a great stay. Everything was nice and clean and the kitchen very well stocked with utensils. The host very kindly left us biscuits and wine, which were greatfully received. The garden is totally secure for dogs. The cottage is within easy walking distance of Rossonwye and a good base to travel to other places of interest. We managed to park in front of the garage, which is just a few steps away from the cottage. As described, the space is quite small and you need to make sure you leave enough room for the other cars to get in and out. We have a Renault Capture and you may struggle with anything larger. Thank you Sarah for making our stay so enjoyable.
Great cottage in a lovely location
The cottage was spotless and beautifully presented, and despite the February weather we very much enjoyed our stay. It was warm and cosy inside and the garden was perfect for our two dogs. The location is also great with a wonderful pub a minute's walk away, and a Spar with daily papers and small food items even closer. Ross On Wye is an easy 15 minute walk too. Particular mention must go to the owners who were fantastic throughout, and I cannot thank them enough for making our stay extra special.
Tracey
We really enjoyed our stay at the old Pump Cottage. The host very generously offered us a free night stay so that we could travel to the cottage the day before a storm was forecast in the area. We took up on the offer and are very grateful. The cottage is ideally located for visiting lots of beautiful market towns in the area. We found Ross on Wye and the surrounding areas very dog friendly which was great news for our Labrador. The cottage itself is very warm and cosy with a comfy bed and well equipped kitchen. We would definitely recommend.
A tastefully decorated cottage with a huge amount of character which was really well equipped and provided us with the perfect escape from our chaotic lives. We spotted squirrels in the garden and the birdsong was tremendous. Such a wonderfully pleasant little retreat which has a fab location and great hosts in Sarah and Chris.
What a lovely experience we had the cottage was extremely clean well equipped and a gorgeous and very well appreciated welcome pack that Sarah left for us . Communications were great , no worries at all we hope to visit again . Thankyou so much for a wonderful experience Sarah
Murray
Pump Cottage is cozy and quaint. It is ideally situated for exploring the local area. Walk into Ross or along the river. Jump on the bus to Hereford or Gloucester. Or walk round the Forest of Dean. Don't forget Wales.
Lovely comfortable property, everything you needed, local pub just a few steps away. We never used the oven once! Beautiful town only 10 minutes walk. Lots of places to explore. Wales on your doorstep.
Murray
Character, decor and facilities are spot on. Location is perfect. Thoroughly enjoyed our third visit.
Robert
Lovely well equipped Cottage for 2 people. Ideal position for touring the Wye Valley and within walking distance of Ross on Wye.
I love this cottage the garden is enclosed & full of bird song all day long. It's so close to the river, which is good for me as I do not drive but could easily walk there. Bus stop round the corner, to get to Ross which is walkable anyway! or Hereford or Monmouth. Local people very friendly. the cottage is comfortable & wellequipped, & Sarah is good at communicating & very helpful. What more can I say?
Gorgeous property in an excellent location
Great comms from Sarah the host before arriving, emails and texts with info and even asking for any dietary requirements for our welcome pack which was a lovely selection of goodies. Apart from our clothes and food drinks the cottage had everything needed, a real home from home feel too. Its a good base to go out exploring the local area, tourist spots, Forest of Dean and we went to Hereford city, only took around half an hours drive. The White Lion is a two minute walk and Id recommend to go there. Ross is a fifteen minute walk away. Contrary to a previous post Id read and the photos on here, there is a banister on the wall now to help with the internal stairs. Thanks again to Sarah for a lovely stay.
Frances
Fantastic stay at the Old Pump Cottage. Great communication with Sarah throughout and the cottage was well equipped, with the welcome pack being a lovely added gesture. Would definitely recommend for trips to the area. Great position to visit Ross on Wye and the Forest of Dean.
Elizabeth
Absolutely lovely little cottage for 2 and a dog! Beautifully styled and equipped with everything you could need. Brilliant location just a short walk along a river path from RossonWye. The whole area is very dog friendly with lots of walks straight from the door.
Alison
The cottage was warm and cosy, a great base for exploring the area. Only 20mins walk by the river into Ross on Wye. Well equipped and great for your furry companion a real gem of a cottage. A lovely welcome pack on arrival and Sarah was in touch to ensure that all was well. I would thoroughly recommend a stay at the Old Pump Cottage.

A very beautiful cottage in a very lovely area. Thankyou Sarah for the wonderful surprises in the fridge and the wine so thoughtful, Ghillie also enjoyed his dog treats, comfy bed and towel. The pump house is spotless, warm and comfortable, no problems with parking in the allocated place.Super enclosed gardens for dog security and a lovely Wisteria growing across the front of the house. We had a great week and the White Lion just down the road, also the Hope and Anchor round at Ross on Wye both venues with riverside views and tasty food. For Ghillie our Cockapoo the nearby walks, the people he met and the time he spent in the Pump House back garden was everything a dog could want on holiday with his pets! Owners . Would highly recommend the Pump House to anyone! Sarah is an amazing host with a text before our arrival with clear instructions and even questions about any dietary requirements. Also follow up texts during our stay to ensure everything was OKAY. Which of course it was. The Pump House is credit to a caring owner, Thank you so much. Anne, John & Ghillie
If you want a lovely break in a cottage that is clean and cosy and well equipped and also is 100 per cent dog friendly with enclosed gardens and gorgeous walks by the river just 5 mins away not to mention the nearby town of Ross on Wye with good old fashioned pubs you should go. Sarah the owner was so lovelycontacted us about any special requirements and gave us and our dogs a fantastic welcome pack. BRILLIANT
We had a lovely 3 night stay and found the cottage to be super cosy and comfortable and cannot think of one thing that would have made it better! In a great location too with an easy walk into Ross on Wye or riverside and field walks with the dog and a lovely pub just steps away that we ate at twice The White Lion. Highly recommend
Thomas
The Old Pump House, loverly well equipped cottage. Very clean in a great location, with a secure garden for the dog is always a bonus
Joanne
A beautiful cottage in a wonderful location, tucked away down a private lane close to everything you need for a perfect holiday just a 5 minute walk along the road and you can drop down to walk along the River Wye, 2 minutes walk across the road to a lovely pub with views over the river serving great food, quarter of an hour walk and you're in the centre of Ross on Wye, all from your doorstep. Lovely walks in the Forrest of Dean just a 10 minute drive away. Sarah could not have been a better host, great communication via text. The cottage was spotlessly clean, well equipped, completely sealed gardens which was perfect for little dogs and the most fabulous welcome gifts. The private parking spot was absolutely fine at the end of the lane, literally next door. Thank you Sarah, we will be back.
Fab cottage for a weeks break
