What a lovely place, great location for relaxing. Very well equipped and comfortable beds! Only suggestion would be to have some slightly better lighting in dining area and sitting room. Otherwise is was perfect for me and my brothers family.
Whilst the written directions are good, Google maps needs changing as it's shown inaccurately. Bins had not been emptied for several weeks. It's a task that needs to be done by guests but wellies required, as you have to go through the ford. Hooks on backs of doors required, especially in downstairs shower room which is tiny. A photo of the main bathroom door and height would be great along with a simple floor plan. It really is restrictive for some. Oven gloves or mitts in the kitchen please. Clearer instructions for recycling and veg waste required bucket provided but no compost heap? . A high number of cobwebs in places, needs a deep clean. 2 of our party struggled with feather pillows, duvet and cushions. Consideration should be given to swapping to many made in some rooms. That sounds negative, it's supposed to be helpful. There were 6 of us and it worked fine. Enough seating for meals and relaxing. Enough bathrooms. Kitchen area worked ok. We squeezed 3 estate cars into the outside space. We enjoyed our stay and would come again. Plenty to do nearby, and lots of walks.
Built in 1688 this is a piece of local history. The premises are quirky in keeping with the age but a tastefully development has been added. It had all we wanted needed and if we go back to the area we would consider it again.
We loved our weekend at the Hall. ...like everyone says on here. It does need a sign! BUT it is quaint, clean, comfortable and remote. You can't help but relax. The twin beds are on the small size perfect for kids but not for adults. Watch your head and the stairs are steep. Loved the ambiance and the kitchen was great. I would recommend for a relaxing chilled break but if you want Wifi and convenience of local shops it's not the thing.
The pictures on the Sykes website are at odds with reality. The cottage is very very quirky and in need of some attention and maintenance by the owners. The front door needs attention as it was extremely difficult to unlock, we had to leave on the latch during the whole of our stay, not a great start. On arrival there was a man and his dog leaving the garden, we asked where Denbigh hall was and he said we had arrived, no introduction so do not know if he was the owner or not and there was dog mess left in the Garden, again if I had been n my own I would have been a bit nervous. There is no obvious signage on the main road which would have been most helpful, this has been recommended several times in the guest book but has not been addressed. All the towels need to be renewed, all were albeit clean have seen better days. All the kitchen cupboards need a good clean, there were food remnants left and all the condiments which have been left need to be sorted as much is out of date. There was no welcome basket which was disappointing. There is clearly a wasp problem as there were remnants of wasps nests outside the front door and details of pest control are n the cottage instructions. If you are taller than 5ft you will need to mind your head, particularly upstairs. Whilst the garden is very tranquil the house itself needs some love and a proper deep deep clean. Previous comments were that there is a smell of sewage, this is because of the bio system in use, we left the downstairs toilet door wide open which helped to dissipate. Would we return unfortunately not to this particular cottage, we have stayed at much better accommodation.

It is very important to have a sign at the beginning of what looks like a farm track. Secondly please emphasise how difficult is is for anyone with mobility problems. The stairs are not easy to negotiate. The very low doorway into the bathroom is also a problem.,
We thought the cottage was charming and in a beautiful location. There is a lovely sense of history about the cottage and the garden is pretty and very private. The kitchen was well equipped and it was lovely sitting outside to eat. I never leave negative comments on a review, but feel this time I have to because when you are spending a lot of money on renting a place you expect at least the bare necessities. We arrived to find that all the carpets rugs and floors were dirty and not hoovered. There was no toilet paper, washing up liquid or dishwasher tabletsso we had to make an 8 mile round trip to get some. Sadly there were quite a few maintenance problems with the property. There was an awful smell of sewerage throughout the cottage the entire time during our stay, particularly by the downstairs loo, I can only assume this is the septic tank and that it needs emptying! The shower tray in upstairs bathroom rose high within seconds indicating blocked drains. The enamel on the inside of the bath is peeling off. The entire water system made an ear splitting noise every time the hot water tap in the kitchen was turned on. The carpets downstairs are badly stained and in need of replacing. When you go on holiday you want to stay somewhere that feels like its being looked after and cared for and not have to do the cleaning yourself or take the bins out on the first night of your stay!. I hope the owners can perhaps hire a better cleaner and get all the problems fixed for the next guests.
We spent the Christmas week in Denbigh Hall as a group of four adults, two children and two dogs. The cottage was beautiful and very comfortable, with large garden, perfect for the dogs. The location at the end of the lane made it very peaceful, with walking paths directly from the cottage. The kitchen was very well equipped and perfect for Christmas cooking. The owners were very helpful and accommodating, decorated the house for us and provided a beautiful Christmas tree. The living room with a fire place and TV was perfect for the winter evenings, and the separate room next to it was very handy for the kids to play games. We had amazing week in Denbigh Hall and we would be very happy to come back.

A beautiful secluded property in gorgeous countryside. The house itself was furnished with everything you need for a comfortable stay. A lovely wood burner and good heating system meant the house was lovely and cosy. Great walks from the doorstep. The only thing I would say is it needs a sign outside plus the what three words in the information pack is incorrect. The bathroom doorway is small so you have to duck, but thats part of the fun! Would definitely return

Disappointed to arrive at 3pm after a 4 hour journey to find the cottage hadn't been cleaned for our arrival. After a call to the owner, an apology due to a computer error, cleaners were despatched and we waited while they cleaned around us. I note another guest reported something similar so would recommend that the owner requests confirmation when cleaning is complete rather than leave guests to report it. After that the cottage was a delight to stay in with a beautiful garden and was very well equipped with an efficient shower, heating and wood burning stove with plenty of wood. The inevitable quirkiness of an older property might be a challenge for some with its two wooden staircases and low beams but we loved it and especially the nod to the history of the property in various pictures. The location at the end of a lane made it lovely and quiet, although after one heavy and prolonged downpour the lane flooded making it impassable for that day but as we had provisions we were okay and the cottage itself wasn't affected. All in all, we had a lovely stay despite the hiccups.

The cottage was in a beautiful location, could benefit from a sign at the end of the approach track maybe. Beautiful garden, very well stocked kitchen, good showers & we enjoyed the log burner. The smoke detectors gave us a fright when using the toaster on our first morning but we sorted it by opening the window & closing the kitchen door. The pillows caused us a few problems as they were feather & my husband is allergic.

A lovely property that has been very well maintained in a lovely location. Lovely woodland walks, which we enjoyed with the dog. A fine big enclosed garden which was ideal for playing lots of outdoor games. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

Directions to the property could be better. Minor issues with kitchen equipment quickly resolved by owners , lovely walking area and very quiet and peaceful location.
Had a lovely relaxing week at this beautiful period quirky cottage set in beautiful countryside and lovely woodland walks. It was very well equipped and in the evening with the wood burner on was so cosy. Would highly recommend a visit. We will definitely book a return visit.

We had a lovely week at Denbigh Hall. Unfortunately there was a mix up with the cleaning booking but this was quickly sorted out with a few phone calls. The property has lots of character, wonderful old staircases and floorboards. The kitchen is very well equipped with lots of pots, pans, plates and cutlery as well as a wide range of cleaning products. There is an excellent wood burner and the house is warm and cosy. The garden is really large and excellent for our dog. The house is at the very end of a lane, the road goes no further so it is lovely and quiet with no passing traffic, we only saw 2 people walking past all week. There is excellent walking from the door, an OS map would be handy as some of the way markers are missing. We did not find the low doorways an issue but the stairs would be challenge for those with mobility issues. The TV and WIFI are excellent. This is a lovely dog friendly property and we would happily return.

A lovely sympathetic restoration of a characterful cottage. Lacking a few niceties that we have come to expect. Eg. a pint of milk in the fridge. The dishcloth was unwashed, one toilet roll between two toilets. Watered down washing up liquid which lasted only two days and only a couple of dishwasher tablets. We were requested to take the recycling bin a fair way up the road for collectionwhich we did but others obviously hadn't. This would be a problem for anyone without the strength or stamina! There are low doorways and uneven floors, which we were warned about, but tall husband was a bit fed up with after a week, I at 5'3 bashed my head once on the 4'6 bathroom doorway! Not suitable for young children as the upstairs windows are low and have no safety features. Radiator in bathroom still not fixed after other peoe had commented in the guest book. Maybe end of season issues. Otherwise, if you come prepared for the above, it is idyllic.

I have been very disappointed in the way Sykes Cottages and particularly the owner of the property dealt with my recent call about my accident at the property due to the fact no warning was issued about the very low door lintel into the bathroom upstairs, where I hit my head quite badly, sustaining a concussion and had to curtail the holiday after just 3 days. I thought I would at least get a phone call asking how I was and I think most caring people would have offered a bit of a refund under the circumstances. Very disappointed.
Lovely peaceful cottage at the end of a narrow country lane. Lots of original features including two wooden winding staircases which may be difficult to navigate for the infirm or elderly and there is a very low door into the bathroom, about chest height. I was surprised how warm the cottage got with the heating on for such an old property. Well equipped kitchen, it even has a dishwasher which it doesn't say on the website. The freezer is hidden in a cupboard near the kitchen door, took me ages to find it. Very good Wifi.
I cannot praise this holiday property highly enough and I am not that easily thrilled! . The absolute beauty, the tranquility of this rural idyll both charmed and impressed us. I will certainly return the most gorgeous everything! The Hall is so well equipped and comfortable. I took quite some kitchen stuff and discovered it was nearly all there. Like home, and very welcoming. The heating, hot water and the shower upstairs performed brilliantly, no complications. I just love the age, floors and staircases, layout of the house together with all mod cons, including WiFi. The only thing my very tall friend said was is there a way to warn about the lower beam between the kitchen and laundry room? I said duck!. So thank you again for an enchanting place to stay.
Lovely cottage in a lovely setting, we had a very peaceful week away
