Yew Tree Cottage Reviews

Our second visit here and we love the quirkiness and peacefulness of this cottage. Really enjoyed evenings by the fire and the extensive and interesting range of books to browse. I am sure we will be back in the future thank you!
Although we enjoyed our stay at the cottage generally, we probably wouldn't return. The cottage was quite well equipped and nicely situated at Docklow Manor. It was quiet, small, generally comfortable and definitely quirky! However, it could definitely do with some minor improvements in the housekeeping department, as follows In winter, the cottage is really draughty and needs a thick velvettype curtain at each door! The oven and trays within were dirty and sticky, one with charred food on it! There was NO microwave really??, which was only confirmed by a recently left review. Even though I asked Sykes months previously to confirm, they never came back with a confirmed response! All the windows needed cleaning inside and out. The TV is hung too high on the wall for comfortable viewing from the sofa, but I know that this is a recent addition, so may be the position needs tweaking? The description stated firewood provided, but there was only enough for 2 nights and it went really chilly at night, so we had to buy more. We were very lucky with the weather which definitely helped us enjoy our stay!
Absolutely fine for a couple of nights. Needs to be clearer that there is no TV channels as such so we had to mess around and use our own netflix and Amazon prime to view programmes in the evening. Would also ensure clarity as to which wifi network to hook into when your device is searching. Those minor issues aside it was a nice place for say a long weekend. No complaints.
It was such a privilege to stay in this unique and interesting cottage. It was very comfortable and well equipped. We loved the personal feel of the cottage and felt very welcomed by it. The owners information was really helpful. The situation is perfect for visiting many castles, hills, areas of outstanding natural beauty and cathedralschurches. The nearby pub is great. Thanks!
Jennifer
Yew Tree Cottage is charming and quirky, but with everything you can possibly need during your stay. Sitting in the garden was so peaceful and the added bonus of a pigeon sitting on her three eggs just by the front door was lovely. Would definitely stay again.

We had a wonderful long weekend at Yew Tree Cottage. It's cosy, quirky, comfortable and feels like a real home from home. Such a peaceful location. The hamlet is a very pretty spot and handy for the main road to visit Leominster, Bromyard & Worcester. We loved sitting out in the evenings listening to the owls and watching the bats flittering around. Our dog enjoyed meeting Finnegan from the big house next door. We're only sorry that we weren't staying for longer!
I had a lovely three night break at your cottage while a new heating system was being installed at home. Thank you for allowing me to stay for a short time. I was accompanied by my dog. I found the cottage met all my needs. It has been tastefully modernised, with all modern conveniences, from a fully equipped kitchen to a lovely bathroom and shower, comfortable bedroom. It is a small cottage but extremely adequate. Lovely small outside space to sit. Unfortunately I only met the neighbours the morning of departure which is a shame because they were lovely. There is a lot to explore in the surrounding area. It is a dog walkers dream. Beautiful countryside and plenty of footpaths. There are also several National Trust properties within a short distance, plus interesting, historical towns e.g. Leominster, Ludlow. Then there are the black and white villages to visit. Too much to see in three days. All close by. You wanted to offer a 'home from home' Huw and I think you have achieved this. I enjoyed browsing your books. I was glad of the television. The only drawback I can report is that you do have to drive everywhere. As stated, even to the local pub the road is too busy to walk along. However this didn't detract from a positive experience. I was able to walk my dog along the drive for early morning and last walk at night. One other point some information regarding the dehumidifier would have been helpful. I wasn't sure if it should be kept on all the time. I would like to return next year for another short stay if possible.
I had a lovely week staying at Yew Tree Cottage the cottage is extremely cosy and homely feeling with very unusual decor the owner is a teacher who frequently works in African countries. There is also now a TV at the cottage smart TV only, no aerial. It would be lovely to have a cottage like this someday! One point to make is that the kitchen has no microwave so all meals had to be oven or hobcooked. Nearest shop is a Morrisons Daily 5 miles, nearest pub is the King's Head very short walk down the road.
Charming country cottage, ideal for a weekend break. Unfortunately we had typical English summer weather but our cosy cottage was snug and warm. The facilities were fine, in keeping with the period look but modern for comfort. Would certainly recommend it for anyone visiting this area.

A very peaceful cottage tastefully equipped with a mix of old and new, but it all works splendidly. I commend it to all dog owners.
It must have been a super cottage at one time but now is a bit faded and in need of some tlc. The position is very quiet and secluded. There is nowhere to exercise a dog as the main road is busy and fast. It was very cosy with the log burner and we enjoyed our few days. There were no instructions about how to dispose of rubbish.
What a lovely cottage! The location is brilliant, the neighbours are friendly, the kitchen is extremely wellequipped, and we loved the cosy cottage feel to the house, the comfortable and obviously wellloved furniture. We loved the eclectic collection of books. It was really nice in the stormy weather to sit by a warm woodburner very easy to light!, listening, reading, talking, playing games... Meadbh the Border Collie didn't want to go out! Alex also was very helpful. The cottage is part of a secluded community well hidden from the main road, sheltered and very picturesque. Great attractions nearby we'd particularly recommend the National Trust houses of Croft House, Brockhampton and Berrington Hall great walks, amazing views, and dogfriendly cafes. Ludlow is always worth a visit, great food outlets, a fascinating church and castle. We fully intend to return when the next opportunity presents itself Thanks Huw!
This property Yew Tree Cottage is a hidden gem, in gorgeous surroundings. We stayed for 8 weeks. The atmosphere is lovely, as are the neighbours in this tucked away little community. There is no television, but there is excellent wi fi and a rather nice little Bose stereo. In addition there is a little community library housed in a traditional telephone box. The King's Head Pub is fantastic, only 300m away, but best approached by car as there aren't footpaths. They do take away. Super shopping in Bromyard or Leominster. We will be back.
Lovely location. Lovely cottage and neighbours who made a fuss over my dog. Alex is a brilliant point of contact and very helpful especially when dealing with the actual location of the cottage. Driving around rural anywhere looking for a cottage in the dark and wrong place is not much fun. Come on Sykes, sort your map and directions out. From the west you need to look out for the next turning on the right Docklow Manor after the King's Head PH. 200 yards.
Madeleine
Well equipped and peaceful cottage in rural setting with friendly neighbours. Comfortably furnished and well supplied with all the basics from loo roll, washing up liquid and kitchen towels to seasonings and condiments. The downstairs room is cosy with a log burner. Theres not a lot of room to manoeuvre, particularly if your dog, like ours, is flat out on the rug in precisely the spot you plan to step in next, but its fine. Upstairs is lighter and more spacious. The courtyard garden is a pleasant spot for breakfast or evening drinks, though next doors yew hedge does throw it into shade by evening. One of the reasons we chose it was the close proximity of a pub which you can see from the driveway. In the end, we took the owners advice and drove there as the fast A road traffic and no footpath is not friendly to walking. The pub does food all day 364 days a year and has a pleasant outdoor space for drinks on a sunny evening with views over the valley. Docklow is set between Bromyard and Leominster, a very convenient location for the black and white village trail and a host of market towns and spas from Ludlow to Malvern and the Wye Valley, plus easy access to Hereford and Worcester. Less than a mile away the fishing lakes of Docklow Pools offer a woodland setting with indoor and outdoor seating at the Fishermens Arms pub and cafe.
The cottage is lovely and wonderful, and I would happily stay there again. It is well kept, and cozy given a dump of snow while I was there. But I would not book through Sykescottages which inundates you with totally unnecessary endless emails before and after.
Such a great stay at your beautiful cottage Huw. Loved everything about it! So relaxing and peaceful and all the neighbours were so friendly. Really enjoyed sitting in the recliner by the fire reading whilst listening to the birds in the bushes outside. Loved your Welcome note with the bit about you living in Africa and Egypt and the many touches from this time in the cottage. A real home from home! Thank you
